YOUR DONATION IN ACTION

The Heart & Stroke Foundation’s mission is to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery. Research has always been the cornerstone of everything we do. Since the Foundation was established in 1952, we have invested more than $1.45 billion in Heart & Stroke research, second only to the federal government. In that time, the death rate from heart disease and stroke has declined by more than 75 per cent.

Canada is home to some of the most innovative and promising research in the world. We want to ensure that heart and stroke researchers, including new investigators embarking on their careers, continue to receive the funding they need to find novel solutions to heart disease and stroke.

Our goal for Ski for Heart in 2017 is to raise a total of $110,000. That’s enough to fund one more researcher, like Dr. Paul Fedak at the University of Calgary. His cutting-edge work is exploring how we can help the body to heal itself from the devastating condition of heart failure. Read more about Dr. Fedak’s work, which could be a game-changer for the 600,000 Canadians living with heart failure today.

Research continues to find solutions to heart disease and stroke, and guides us in our evidence-based approach to health promotion and advocacy. For example, our recent public awareness campaign called FAST, is directly in line with research findings that the best outcomes for stroke patients result when they get to the hospital fast! In the past year, this campaign has saved more than a dozen Canadian lives. Our thanks go to our supporters, who made the campaign possible and saved lives!

We encourage you to read more about the Heart & Stroke Foundation and how your donation makes a difference at heartandstroke.ca. You can also read more stories about the research we fund because of the generosity of our supporters on our blog, blog.heartandstroke.ca.

Thank you for your support. Please listen to Dr. Paul Fedak’s message about the importance of your donation.
