About The Event

What is the Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart?

Whether you’re in it for a fun family ride or challenging coastal trek the Ride for Heart NL promises an unforgettable experience for all. Every rider will get the pleasure of starting out in beautiful Bowring Park, riding under the canopy of massive maple trees alongside St. John’s beautiful Waterford River, peddling past the bustling dock of the St. John’s Harbour, spinning through the narrow streets of quirky Quidi Vidi Village, and cruising past century’s old buildings, pubs and shops on historic Water Street. Those up for the challenging 60km ride will also get the thrill of tackling the hills of Shea Heights to gain access to the potential spectacle of icebergs and whales off Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America), onwards to the stunning fishing village of Petty Harbour (home of Great Big Sea’s Alan Doyle), through the quaint farmland of the Goulds and back to celebrate at Bowring Park.

What is the date of the Ride?

Sunday, July 10, 2016.

I want to help, but don’t want to ride. What can I do?

There are a few ways you can be part of the Ride for Heart and create more survivors.

Donate to the Ride With a general donation, you help ensure we continue the life-saving work that creates more survivors and brings more Canadians home.

Sponsor a Participant or Team You’ll make someone smile while contributing to our critical work.

Volunteer You’ll be an important part of the Ride and help the event run smoothly.

No matter how you choose to get involved, you’ll help. Thank you!

Where does the Ride start?

The Ride starts and finishes at Bowring Park. Please see the Event Info page for information on parking.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Everyone who participates in the ride must wear a helmet, regardless of age or experience. The safety of all participants is of paramount importance to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We want you to have a spectacular, safe and memorable Ride.

Will the Ride take place if it rains?

Yes! Rain or shine together we ride.

How do I register?

Register online now! It’s easy:
Step 1: Go to Register Now
Step 2: Choose your participant type
Step 3: Follow the on screen prompts through the registration process
Step 4: Provide your details
Step 5: Tick the box on the waiver
Step 6: Review your registration
Step 7: Make your payment (if there is one)

You can register online until the event is full, or until 11:59 p.m. on July 9, 2016, whichever comes first. If you need a hand registering, Simply contact Frank Healey by e-mail at frank.healey@heartandstroke.ca or by phone at 709-383-1026.

Can I ride solo or with a group or team?

You can join as an individual, group or Corporate Challenge team.

Individuals are single participants who are excited to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and participate in the Ride for Heart. Groups are 2 or more people who will be raising funds and riding together on Ride day. They can be any mixture of friends, family or co-workers. The Corporate Challenge is a day of team building, morale boosting, profile-raising, and lifesaving for businesses that want their employees to Ride together and have an extra special event day experience.

Can’t I register the day of the Ride?

Yes you can, but only if it’s not sold out! We think it’s much safer to register online in advance to guarantee your spot. Plus, all participants (18+) have to raise a minimum of $100, so registering in advance gives you lots of time to reach that goal!

I’ve already registered for Ride for Heart 2016. When do I receive a registration confirmation?

Thanks for joining us! You should receive a confirmation email right away to the email address that you provided during registration. There’s a chance it went into your spam folder (or promotions tab if you use Gmail), so be sure to check there. As the day of the Ride approaches, our Ride Team will periodically send you helpful emails, so keep an eye out.

If you haven’t received a confirmation email yet, please use this contact form to let us know.

Will I get a tax receipt for my registration fee?

Unfortunately, no. Like other events of this type, your registration fee is not tax-deductible, though all donations are. Registration fees help offset the costs of putting on this exceptional event so, in accordance with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency regulations, they do not qualify for charitable tax receipts.

I would like to Ride with my husband/sister/child/friend. Do I have to register everyone separately?

Yes. It’s the only way to secure a place in the event for each participant. Each person simply has to complete a registration form and sign an event waiver. If a participant is under 18 years old, a parent (or custodian) will have to sign the waiver on the child's behalf.

Thank you so much for encouraging others to join you. It’s going to be an amazing day! Register now.

Is it possible to change a registered Group or Team name?

Yes, your Captain can make this change in their participant centre.

How do I find out who is on my team from my online profile?

Simply log in to your fundraising page, and then click on the “my team” link.

Why are Individual and Group registration fees identical?

All adult individual participants will incur the same registration fee. The advantage of joining a group is that you can monitor your team stats together.

About The Corporate Challenge

I would like my company to have a team. How do I sign up?

Thank you so much! Simply contact the Corporate Challenge Coordinator at frank.healey@heartandstroke.ca or by phone at 709-383-1026. We’ll happily get your team set up and we’ll be here to support you along the way.

The company I work for has signed up for the Ride. How do I register as part of their team?

That’s great! You’ll just need to know your team name and your team’s discount code, to ensure you are not charged for joining your team. You can ask your team captain if you aren’t sure.

Step 1: Go to Register Now
Step 2: Select whether to ride, run or walk
Step 3: Search for your Team name
Step 4: Click on the “Join Team” button

Once you do that, you’ll be taken through a few short steps:

Step 1: Select the correct participant type to join a Corporate Challenge Team from the list
Step 2: Provide your details and enter the discount code to waive the registration fee
Step 3: Tick the box on the waiver
Step 4: Review your registration

Fundraising

Do I have to fundraise in addition to paying a registration fee? Or does my registration fee count towards my fundraising goal? Why?

Yes, each participant (18+) must raise a minimum of $100 outside of their registration fee to be able to participate in the Ride. In order to participate in the Ride, participants need to raise the minimum fundraising amount by event day. Click here for tips on how to reach your fundraising goal.

Keep in mind that if you’d like to be a VIP, you have to raise at least $1,000. Whatever your goal, you can do it!

How do I fundraise online?

It’s never been easier!

First, log in to your Participant Centre. From there, you can send emails to your friends and family. You’ll find recruitment, donation request and thank you email templates that will link directly back to your personal donation page.

We also have tons of fundraising tips in Participant Support for you.

How do I collect offline donations/pledges?

Your supporters can donate using cash, cheques or credit card. Simply download the 2016 fundraising form and use it to record your sponsors’ information. Once you’re finished fundraising, you can submit the offline donations/pledges a couple of ways.

By mail:
Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart
1037 Topsail Road
Mount Pearl, NL A1N 5E9

In person:
Click here to find a Heart and Stroke Foundation Office in your area.
You can drop your donations off from Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 4:00pm between May 30 and July 8, 2016.

During pre-event check-in or at the Ride.

Do I need to enter the offline donations I have collected in my online participant centre? How will my fundraising thermometer reflect these funds raised?

You are not able to enter offline donations through your Participant Centre.

Please mail your completed fundraising forms with cheques if you have them to our Ride mailbox at:

Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart
1037 Topsail Road
Mount Pearl, NL A1N 5E9

Your offline fundraising amounts will appear on your fundraising thermometer within 2 business days of us receiving your funds and fundraising forms. This will ensure that your fundraising totals are as up to date as possible and minimize discrepancies. Alternatively, you may personally deliver your offline funds and fundraising forms to our Check-in Centre. Do not send cash in the mail.

Please note: any offline donations received at the Check-in Centre or Ride Day will not be added to your fundraising thermometer total but will count towards your fundraising total and prizes.

How will you use the money that I raise?

In short, every dollar funds life-saving research to create more survivors.

See how we put your dollars to work.

Does each member of a Team need to raise $100? Or is it a combined total?

Each person on your Team needs to raise at least $100. If there are kids (Participants 17 years of age or under) on your team, they don’t have to raise $100 but of course, we’ll be so happy if they do! Check out our fundraising tips and rewards so you can beat your goal! Get started by donating to your own fundraising page. It’ll set the bar and bring you that much closer!
