On November 30th 2012 my good friend Mike went into cardiac arrest while playing hockey with my "Weekday Warrior" morning group. We play at 7am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to get some exercise before hitting the daily grind. I've played with some of those guys for 20 years.
Watching Mike have his heart ailment right in front of us was extremely frightening. Actually, it was the scariest thing I have seen.
This story has a happy ending though, Mike survived. Thanks to a few of the hockey guys knowing CPR, Ottawa Fire and Paramedics quick response and super care at the Heart Institute. Mike would have missed so much. Since that time he was able to walk his daughter down the aisle and he has become a grandfather.
In the spring of 2013 our morning hockey group joined the Hockey for Heart tournament and we've been the top fundraising team each year!! Thanks for your support.
Well... we're back at it again this year. If you can find the resources, you know it's a great cause. We appreciate every dollar.
Mike can't play hockey anymore, so we play to honour him. He was a former CFL fullback and was in tremndous shape, this really can happen to anyone.
I also to play to remeber my uncle Bruce Downing who passed away in 2017 and to celebrate my Uncle Norman Downing - who is a heart transplant survivor.
I appeciate your support!
