2013 was an interesting year for me. Got a new car as well as a new lease on life!
I had been having breathing issues, pain in my chest and general fatigue. Went to the doctor and had my heart checked out and nothing showed up….not with ECG nor blood tests. That summer I continued with my regular bike rides of about 30-40km on the roads and hills in the area, regular hikes …. regular everything. But the symptoms persisted. A talk with a very young and very fit friend in the spring of that year told me that heart disease can strike anyone; I mean this guy runs 10 km almost daily and he had a heart attack! So remembering our conversation I requested a stress test. I didn’t leave the hospital that day but was put into the CCU and arrangements made for my visit to the Cath Lab at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener. Bottom line was a 99% blockage of my RCA. Why I hadn’t had a heart attack was pure luck and a pretty good fitness level. A stent was put in, the artery opened and I am back at all my activities on a regular basis. June 2014 was my 1st Ride for Heart and Stroke. And I will continue with this tradition as long as I am able. Please support my rides.
Thank you!
