Thanks for taking a look at my page. I'd like to tell you why I have decided to canvass for he Heart and Stroke Foundation (H&SF) and what your donation does.
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women. I want to help change this. When i first volunteered to canvass for the H&SF, it was for personal, abstract ideas (participating in the local community, etc.). But this January (2017), I had a medical issue which a diagnostic ECG ordered by my GP revealed as a possible heart attack. I did not have a heart attack, but the trip to Emergency and a second ECG at Hamilton General Hospital showed that I had near complete blockage of a heart artery. The insertion of two stents successfully opened the blocked artery. I had no medical evidence of heart issues (high blood pressure, high collesteral) before or since the intervention. I was released from Hamilton General Hospital 48 hours after arriving there from home.
I was one of the LUCKY ones who receives a warning that there was an issue with my heart. For some people, the problem is revealed dramatically, sometimes tragically (they fall over dead). The important work of the H&SF to increase awareness of the risks of heart disease, and to decrease mortality amongst Canadians with heart disease is why I’m canvassing to create more survivors; to increase the chance that there will be ever more lucky ones like myself.
All of the money I raise will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, where they’ll use it to develop life-saving treatments that bring hope to heart disease and stroke patients. In the last year alone, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has helped create 165,000 survivors of heart disease and stroke.
Please help the H&SF save lives and fund research into heart diseases by making a donation today.
It's only with your help that we can continue to fund this vital research, and return more survivors home to their loved ones.
Thank you so much for your support. PETER
