I cannot believe this will be my third year as a volunteer canvasser for Heart & Stroke. This year I almost didn’t volunteer. Time is a very valuable commodity for everyone these days and I’m no different. But, as February gets closer, my heart is counting on me to dedicate the month of February to my family. I previously told you the story about losing my father in 1994 from a massive heart attack when he was 64 and about my brother passing away suddenly at age 53 with a massive heart attack while moose hunting in 2013. I also spoke about how my mother suffered for over 20 years with pain from heart disease and how I sat with her for two weeks after a debilitating heart attack in 2015 when she was 80. I held her hand and kept repeating how much I loved her in hopes that she would go to heaven knowing I was there with her. Therefore, in honour of my Father, Mother and Brother, you are once again going to see me out in the neighbourhood, during the Month of February, in daylight hours wearing my red hat and coat and this year driving a white truck (or with my daughter in her green Kia Soul or walking).
Heart & Stroke is focusing this year on broad communication about the signs of heart attack and stroke for women. Every year there are new and better treatments and, if caught early, heart attack and stroke can be stopped in its tracks and even damage reversed. So, if you choose not to donate, I respect that. But, if you do nothing else, PLEASE read the information on the Heart and Stroke website about the signs of heart attack and stroke. Being informed could save your life or the life of a loved one.
Once again this year I will run a lottery as an incentive to donate. At the end of February, I will purchase $50.00 (my donation to the campaign) of lotto tickets. Anyone who donates to my campaign will automatically become part of the “Bradford Road Heart & Stroke Lotto Group”. I can provide a copy of the tickets, upon request, to whoever wants to play along. If I miss you when I come to your door, you can contact me and I will make a special trip to you or you can arrange to stop at my house. If we win more than $500 I will make the payouts in equal shares to everyone in the group. If we win less than $500 I will continue to re-invest into the lotto.
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women. I want to help change this. That’s why I’m canvassing to create more survivors.
All of the money I raise will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, where they’ll use it to develop life-saving treatments that bring hope to heart disease and stroke patients. In the last year alone, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has helped create 165,000 survivors of heart disease and stroke.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation today.
Thank you for your support.
