Heart disease and stroke are the number 1 killer in Canada, with devastating costs to Canadians both financially and personally every year. As a heart muscle researcher at the University of Guelph, I study what goes wrong with people who suffer from hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies. Once we've figured out what is going wrong, we can begin to figure out how to fix it.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation funds my research at Guelph, so when they called to ask if I might put together a team from the University as part of the Ride for Research, I was happy to say "yes!" This is a wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of the Cardiovascular Group at Guelph and to interact with other like-minded researchers at the Ride on June 5th.
I know everyone is stretched these days, but every bit counts. Anything you can give to help support the Heart and Stroke Foundation is greatly appreciated and will directly improve the lives of Canadians through preventing disease, saving lives and promoting recovery.
