On Saturday, October 27, 2018, Angelwalk Theatre and CosParty will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: In Concert at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church – and the evening will be much more than a performance alone...
Performed in a setting reminiscent of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, this ‘tale as old as time’ will feature some of Canada’s top musical theatre stars, with all proceeds benefitting the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Billed as a show, fundraiser and experience, patrons are encouraged to get their best cosplay on and participate in a costume contest for either the matinee (animated, cartoon dress theme) or evening performance (live action, gala princess ball, black tie theme), where they will be entertained by the Broadway musical performed in concert with a live orchestra. Families are encouraged to attend the matinee as a pre-Halloween treat, where special pricing is available for children 18 and under. A silent auction and other event fundraising will also be taking place and a pop-up themed photo booth with professional photographer will be on site to capture all the costumes and memories.
Music Directed by the renowned Mark Camilleri, the all-star cast will feature Tess Barao as Belle, Ryan Allen as the Beast, Jonathan Cullen as Gaston, Jonathan Whittaker as Maurice, Bruce Dow as Cogsworth, Alessandro Constantini as Lumiere, Paula Wolfson as Mrs. Potts, Joseph Zita as Chip, Camila Diaz-Varela as Babette, Ruthie Nkut as Madame De La Grande Bouche, Jake Deeth as Lefou, A'mar Wharton-Matthew as Mr D'arque, Olivia Sinclair-Brisbane as a Silly Girl.
CosParty’s Artistic Director Tess Barao and Angelwalk Theatre’s Artistic & Executive Director Brian Goldenberg have partnered on this exciting professional production, fundraiser and experience for very personal reasons. On January 29th, 2016, Tess’ father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack. Since this personal tragedy, she has been determined to find light in darkness and that is where the idea of putting together this concert for Heart & Stroke arose.
“I chose BEAUTY AND THE BEAST because it’s the show that most reminds me of my dad. At heart, it’s a story about an eccentric girl and her eccentric Papa who would go to any lengths to protect each other. Plus, Maurice’s moustache definitely rivals my dad’s. My dad was the most generous soul in the world. He would’ve given the shirt off his back if we would’ve let him, and so being able to help people in his name is a very fitting way to honour his memory.”

Having also been affected by heart disease in his family, Brian was inspired to join forces with Tess and raise awareness and money for Heart & Stroke.
“Two weeks before I was born, my grandfather suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side and prone to extremes in emotions. Over the past two years, my uncle experienced a stroke and my father suffered a mild heart attack. As a result of advances in medicine and exceptional care, both my uncle and my father survived and avoided more serious consequences. When I heard that Tess was looking to do a benefit in this way, I knew that I had to be involved. Charitable work has always been a part of who I am, and this was a perfect way for the work I do in theatre to have a deeper purpose and a lasting impact.”
