About Big Bike

What is the Heart&Stroke Big Bike?
It’s a unique fundraising event — 29 riders pedal one Big Bike! And it’s perfect for companies, organizations and groups that want to help fund critical research.
How far do we ride on event day?
It varies by location and route, but generally about 2km.
How long is the event?
The ride itself typically takes 15-20 minutes. You should arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled ride time to hand in donations and have a team photo taken. Some teams plan post-event activities—hopefully yours is one of them!
Do I need to be physically fit to ride the Big Bike?
The Big Bike is partially about increasing your heart rate and physical activity, but it is also a team-building exercise! The bike is pedal-powered, but when you and your teammates pedal together, it is not overly strenuous. You can make it a workout for yourself, or work together with your teammates to keep the bike moving. Please be aware that you do need to be able to climb onto the bike unaided.
Does the Heart&Stroke Big Bike event get cancelled if it rains?
No way! The Heart&Stroke Big Bike rides in rain, wind, and even snow! But if there’s lightning or other dangerous weather, the event can be rescheduled or cancelled. In the unlikely event that this happens to your Big Bike event, your Heart and Stroke Foundation representative will liaise directly with your team’s captain.
What recognition will our team receive by riding the Heart&Stroke Big Bike?

As you pedal through streets, you’ll get lots of attention. What better way to showcase your company/organization than to display your team name at the front of the Big Bike? That way, your community will see that you’re pedaling for the Heart & Stroke Foundation to help fund life-saving research.

If your team raises $5,000 or more, you will all receive a Thank You Big Bike Medal on event day.

How long has the Big Bike been raising funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Canada?
2017 will be mark our 24th awesome year! The Heart&Stroke Big Bike now raises more than $8 million each year to help fund critical research.
When will I receive my thank you prize?
For any participant who raises over $200, they will earn an incentive gift card. Eligible participants will be contacted up to 2 months after their event day by Cardswap, our gift card provider.

Participants will then be able to select their gift card of choice from the following options: Hudson’s Bay, Chapters/Indigo, GAP/Banana Republic/Old Navy or Sport Chek. Participants have until December 31st to select their gift card.

Registration

Why should I register online for the Heart&Stroke Big Bike?

There are a few really good reasons!

  • It’s easier for teammates to join your team because they can register themselves.
  • It’s the only way to get a personal fundraising page and access to the team page.
  • You can raise money quickly and easily by sharing the link to your page. And there’s no need to walk around with a collection envelope.
  • You can see how close your team is to achieving your fundraising goal!
  • It cuts down on administration time so more money goes directly supporting research.

Please note: you will not be able to join a team if your captain is not online, so send them a friendly reminder to register the team online.

Who can participate in the Big Bike event?

Anyone aged 14 years or older! Individuals aged 14-17 years can ride as long as a parent or legal guardian has provided signed permission on the waiver form. Download the waiver here.

My son/daughter wants to ride but is younger than 14 years old. Is that okay?

Unfortunately, for safety reasons, we cannot allow anyone under the age of 14 to participate in the Heart&Stroke Big Bike.

But bring your kid(s) to cheer you on! And they can help you fundraise too. It’s great to get the family involved.

I would like to register a team, but my town is not listed. Can I still organize a ride?
Simply contact us and we'll help you out.

Is there a minimum number of riders required to ride the bike?

Ideally, the bike should be full, so that’s 29 riders. The Heart&Stroke Big Bike is ‘pedal powered’ and therefore requires at least 14 people to get the Big Bike rolling. Please contact your local area office for more details.

My organization/company has more than 29 people who are interested in riding the Heart&Stroke Big Bike. Can we register more than one team?
You certainly can! Please speak to your local Heart and Stroke Foundation representative or contact us to find out how. Remember there is no fundraising minimum for the program but on average, teams raise between $2,000 and $3,000.
Can I use my username and password from previous years?
In 2015, we implemented a new fundraising platform, which enhanced your website experience and made it easier to register, fundraise and track your progress, so you can use your username and password from 2015 or 2016.
What do I do if I don’t know if I registered in 2015 or 2016?
Click on the “forget password” link which will prompt you to enter a username and email address. If you don’t know your username, you can click on the “forgot username” name which will require you to type in your email address. If the system does not recognize your email address, then you will need to register as a new user.
Are my donor list and historical donation info available online?
Yes, if you participated in Big Bike in 2015 or 2016, any contacts you uploaded to your Participant Centre, as well as your donor list will already be there. You can still import any additional contacts and use the updated mail templates to start fundraising.

If you are considered a new user, once you register online, there are options within your Participant Centre to import your address book and contacts to your new headquarters page. You’ll also have access to email templates to use to reach your network. If your past donors are not displaying in your Participant Centre, please contact your local Big Bike Coordinator and they will be able to send you an electronic version of your donor list.
