FAQs

When you have questions, we have answers! We’ll help you out every step of the way.

About the Event

What is the Becel Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart?

It’s an experience of a lifetime! Truly, it’s Canada's largest charity cycling event in support of heart disease and stroke research. You get to ride along the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) and Gardiner Expressway in Toronto, traffic-free with 14,000 other people. For more about the event, click here.

What is the date of the Ride?

Sunday May 31, 2015.

I want to help, but don’t want to ride a bike. What can I do?

There are a few ways you can be part of the Ride for Heart and create more survivors.

Donate to the Ride With a general donation, you help ensure we continue the life-saving work that creates more survivors and brings more Canadians home.

Sponsor a Rider or Team You’ll make someone smile while contributing to our critical work.

Volunteer You’ll be an important part of the Ride and help the event run smoothly.

No matter how you choose to get involved, you’ll help. Thank you!

Where does the Ride start?

It starts at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto. For directions, a map, or information on parking, click here.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Everyone must wear a helmet when they’re riding, regardless of age or experience. The safety of all Riders is of paramount importance to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We want you to have a spectacular, safe and memorable Ride.

Will the Ride take place if it rains?

Yes! Rain or shine, together we ride.

Registration

How do I register?

Register online now! It’s easy:
Step 1: Go to Register Now
Step 2: Choose your participant type
Step 3: Follow the on screen prompts through the registration process
Step 4: Provide your details
Step 5: Tick the box on the waiver
Step 6: Review your registration
Step 7: Make your payment (if there is one)

You can register online until the event is full, or until 11:59 p.m. on May 30, 2015, whichever comes first. If you need a hand registering, simply contact us at (416) 486-RIDE (7433) or email ride@hsf.on.ca and we’ll help you out.

What are the Ride participation types?

For 2015, we have simplified our registration types.  You can join as an individual, group or Corporate Challenge team.

Individuals are single riders who are excited to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and participate in the Ride for Heart.  Groups are 2 or more people who will be raising funds and riding together on Ride day.  They can be any mixture of friends, family or co-workers.  The Corporate Challenge is a day of team building, morale boosting, profile-raising, and lifesaving for businesses that want their employees to Ride together and have an extra special event day experience.

Can’t I register the day of the Ride?

Yes you can, but only if it’s not sold out! We think it’s much safer (the Ride has sold out for the last 4 years) to register online in advance to guarantee your spot. Plus, all Riders (18+) have to raise a minimum of $100, so registering in advance gives you lots of time to reach that goal!

I’ve already registered for Ride for Heart 2015. When do I receive a registration confirmation?

Thanks for joining us! You should receive a confirmation email right away to the email address that you provided during registration. There’s a chance it went into your spam folder (or promotions tab if you use Gmail), so be sure to check there. As the day of the Ride approaches, our Ride Team will periodically send you helpful emails, so keep an eye out.

If you haven’t received a confirmation email yet, please use this contact form to let us know.

Will I get a tax receipt for my registration fee?

Unfortunately, no. Like other events of this type, your registration fee is not tax-deductible, though all donations are. Registration fees help offset the costs of putting on this exceptional event so, in accordance with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency regulations, they do not qualify for charitable tax receipts.

When I try to register online, I receive error messages and my screen is freezing. What’s wrong?

Sorry about that! From time to time, there are so many people accessing the online registration system at the same time that this happens. You didn’t do anything wrong. We appreciate your patience and suggest that you try again later.

If you don’t want to wait, please call 416-486-RIDE (7433) for assistance. Alternatively, you can take note (copy and paste, or a screen shot work well) of the exact error message and send it to Becel Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart customer service at ride@hsf.on.ca for further investigation along with your email and phone number.

I would like to Ride with my husband/sister/child/friend. Do I have to register everyone separately?

Yes. It’s the only way to secure a place in the event for each Rider. Each person simply has to complete a registration form and sign an event waiver. If a Rider is under 18 years old, a parent (or custodian) will have to sign the waiver on the child's behalf.

Thank you so much for encouraging others to join you. It’s going to be an amazing day! Register now.

Is it possible to change a registered Group or Team name?

Yes, your Captain can make this change in their participant centre.

How do I find out who is on my team from my online profile?

Simply log in to your fundraising page, and then click on the “my team” link.

Why are Individual and Group registration fees identical?

All adult individual riders will incur the same registration fee. The advantage of joining a group is that you can monitor your team stats together.

About the Corporate Challenge

I would like my company to have a team. How do I sign up?

Thank you so much! Simply contact the Corporate Challenge Coordinator at corporatechallenge@hsf.on.ca or 416-489-7111 x3277. We’ll happily get your team set up and we’ll be here to support you along the way.

The company I work for has signed up for the Ride. How do I register as part of their team?

That’s great! You’ll just need to know your team name and your team’s discount code, to ensure you are not charged for joining your team. You can ask your team captain if you aren’t sure.

Step 1: Go to Register Now
Step 2: Choose “Join a Corporate Challenge Team”
Step 3: Search for your Team name
Step 4: Click on the “Join Team” button

Once you do that, you’ll be taken through a few short steps:

Step 1: Select the correct participant type to join a Corporate Challenge Team from the list
Step 2: Provide your details and enter the discount code to waive the registration fee
Step 3: Tick the box on the waiver
Step 4: Review your registration

Fundraising

Do I have to fundraise in addition to paying a registration fee? Or does my registration fee count towards my fundraising goal? Why?

Yes, each Rider (18+) must raise $100 outside of their registration fee to be able to participate in the Ride. So no, your registration fee doesn’t count towards your fundraising goal. Keep in mind that if you’d like to be a VIP or if you’re part of the Paramedic Challenge, you have to raise at least $1,000. Whatever your goal, you can do it!

How do I fundraise online?

It’s never been easier!

First, log in to your Participant Centre. From there, you can send emails to your friends and family. You’ll find recruitment, donation request and thank you email templates that will link directly back to your personal donation page.

We also have tons of fundraising tips in Rider Support for you.

How do I collect offline donations/pledges?

Your supporters can donate using cash, cheques or credit card. Simply download the 2015 fundraising form and use it to record your sponsors’ information. Once you’re finished fundraising, you can submit the offline donations/pledges a couple of ways.

By mail:
The Becel Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart
P.O. Box 1227, Station K
2384 Yonge St.
Toronto, ON M4P 3E4

In person:
Click here to find a Heart and Stroke Foundation Office in your area.
You can drop your donations off Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m between May 18 and June 5, 2015.

During pre-event check-in or at the Ride.

Do I need to enter the offline donations I have collected in my online participant centre? How will my fundraising thermometer reflect these funds raised?

You are not able to enter offline donations through your Participant Centre.

Please mail your completed fundraising forms with cheques if you have them to our Ride mailbox at:

The Becel Heart&Stroke Ride for Heart
P.O. Box 1227, Station K
2384 Yonge St.
Toronto, ON M4P 3E4

Your offline fundraising amounts will appear on your fundraising thermometer within 2 business days of us receiving your funds and fundraising forms. This will ensure that your fundraising totals are as up to date as possible and minimize discrepancies. Alternatively, you may personally deliver your offline funds and fundraising forms to our Check-in Centre. Do not send cash in the mail.

Please note: any offline donations received at the Check-in Centre or Ride Day will not be added to your fundraising thermometer total but will count towards your fundraising total and prizes.

How will you use the money that I raise?

In short, every dollar funds life-saving research to create more survivors.

See how we put your dollars to work.

Does each member of a Team need to raise $100? Or is it a combined total?

Each person on your Team needs to raise at least $100. If there are kids (Riders 17 years of age or under) on your team, they don’t have to raise $100 but of course, we’ll be so happy if they do! Check out our fundraising tips and rewards you can beat your goal! Get started by donating to your own fundraising page. It’ll set the bar and bring you that much closer!

We’ve tried our best to answer any questions you might have, but if we missed something, simply contact us and we’ll help you out.
